Preserve your cherished leather furniture by cleaning and protecting it.
Few items of furniture add sophistication and appeal to your living area quite like leather lounges and chairs. Look after them properly and they will reward you with many years of use.
To keep your leather furniture in excellent condition, you’ll need to clean, condition and protect the leather on a regular basis. While leather is generally very durable and long-lasting, it can dry, crack and/or fade over time. It is also susceptible to damage, particularly if stains from body oils and skin lotions are left untreated.
Tuft & Weave understand what is required to clean and protect all manner of leather types. We also offer a comprehensive leather restoration service that can bring damaged or worn leather back to life.
Leather is a natural and warm-looking product that lends itself beautifully to fine furniture. The irregularities and colour differences in leather make each piece unique. Those differences also mean that careful attention needs to be paid to cleaning, conditioning and protecting the leather.
By having your leather furniture professionally cleaned and protected on a regular basis, you can increase its lifespan and make it easier to avoid potentially damaging stains.

Tuft and Weave are experienced in restoring all types of residential and commercial leather to its original glory and can provide the following restoration services:
Remove permanent stains – removing permanent stains such as ink, hair dye, suntan, and colour transfer. To remove permanent stains the leather pigment or dye needs to be removed and the spot expertly colour matched to the rest of the leather.
Repair damage caused by cuts and rips, burns, holes, cracks and scratches – this process involves applying glues and leather fillers, stamping the restored area to match the leather pattern, and expertly matching the colours.
Repair colour – Whether you want a complete colour change or to repair a colour issue caused by fading, sun damage or colour cracking and peeling off. Tuft & Weave are experienced in repairing and redyeing aniline leather as well as recolouring pigmented leather to revitalise your cherished furniture.

There are several different varieties of leather available on the market, each of which has its own characteristics. Because each leather is unique, different products and cleaning methods are needed to care for each leather type and prolong its life.
What type of leather do you have?
Pigmented or protected leather is the most durable and low maintenance of all the leather types.
A layer of coloured pigment is applied to the surface of the leather to give it a vibrant and uniform appearance. A clear protective topcoat is applied over the pigment.
This type of leather requires regular cleaning and conditioning (moisturising) to remove abrasive dust and clean any build-up of body oil, sweat and general dirt to prevent permanent damage to the leather.
We recommend: You can clean Pigmented leather yourself every 3–6 months, but you should have it professionally cleaned every 6–12 months.

Aniline is the purest form of leather and is made from quality hides. It’s a full-grain leather that has been dyed, but not pigmented or protected.
Aniline can fade easily. And because it has no protective topcoat, it can absorb stains and spillages quickly – especially body and head oils.
We recommend: You should have your Aniline leather protected before use and ensure it is professionally cleaned, conditioned (moisturised) and protected every 6–12 months to maintain its natural beauty and prolong its life.

Like Aniline, Semi-aniline is a full-grain leather with a fine layer of pigment and an even colour. It sometimes has a light coating that gives it protection.
Semi-aniline leather feels soft and warm to the touch, and will be smooth-looking, sometimes with natural scars visible.
While not as absorbent as Aniline, Semi-aniline leather may absorb spillages after a short time, which will leave the area of spillage darker.
We recommend: You should ensure your Semi-aniline leather is professionally cleaned, conditioned (moisturised) and protected every 6–12 months to maintain its natural beauty and prolong its life.

Nubuck is the softest and most expensive of all the leathers. It will have a ‘nap’ on the surface that is velvety to the touch and will change the shade of the leather if you run your hand across it in different directions.
Being a natural Aniline leather and buffed, Nubuck is very soft. However, it’s also very absorbent, which makes it susceptible to staining and difficult to maintain.
Suede leather has similar characteristics to Nubuck leather, but it is made from the flesh side of the leather, not the top grain.
We recommend: You should ensure that Nubuck and suede leather is professionally protected before use and that you have your furniture professionally cleaned and protected on a regular basis.

Made from high-quality hides, Pull-Up leather is an Aniline leather that has been treated with an oil or wax finish. It is designed to develop a distressed look over time.
Due to the protection provided by the layer of wax or oil, Pull-Up leather is more durable than pure Aniline leather.
We recommend: You should have Pull-Up leather professionally cleaned on a regular basis every 6-12 months to revitalise the wax or oil finish.
